6 charged after fights, shots fired near downtown Greensboro

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Police say six people were charged overnight after “several” fights and gunshots followed a party near downtown Greensboro.
The incident happened at St. John’s Masonic Lodge at 1107 E. Market St., where a promoter was hosting a party to “give teens something to do near downtown,” according to Greensboro City Council member Zack Metheny. Metheny said the promoter was hosting a party targeting teenagers. Neither Metheny nor investigators could say who hosted the party.
Captain Joel Cranford with the Greensboro Police said their Department has been aware this event was planned for several weeks.
Earlier this week, he said, the event was moved to the East Market St. Lodge location. He said it was originally scheduled for a location in the Southern part of the city.
